UFX SUMMARY
For those of you tired of buying a “new” light kit for every model that comes out that you want to light, we now offer the UFX! The UFX is a brand new light kit that will do everything our fusion core light kit could do and MUCH more! It features a variety of special effects (flashing, strobes, pulses, thrusters, fade up/down, etc.). It is not as plug and play like the specific light kit for the fusion core, but is very easy to work with and highly customizable. It will also do all the standard lighting in your model as well! It is a true multi-function circuit board that is good for beginners, easy to use, and will satisfy the needs of model building professionals. It is also very aptly suited for diorama’s and railroad layouts!
UFX stands for Universal FX Lighting System. The circuit board itself is completely assembled and ready for you to configure. You will not have to do any programming or anything like that. You will basically have a 2” x 3.5” mainboard, powered from a 9v or 2 x 9v batteries or an optional AC adapter. It will have TEN 5mm bright white LED's already mounted on the unit - each of these LED’s capable of performing a different function (blink, strobe, navigation light (slow and fast), slow fade up/fade down, fast fade up/fade down, "rocket engine", pulse, slight pulse and Constant On). These LED's are ONLY for connecting fiber-optic strands to, allowing for literally unlimited lighting customization.
On the other side of the unit, there are a series of corresponding (mated) connectors that will allow you to connect "wired" LED's as well, as many as your power source will support and in almost any configuration. This connector is really ten "pin-headers" (a pin-header is a pair of brass pins) that give you a place to attach LED's. I'll be selling pre-wired LED's with sliding connectors for the pin-headers on them, but if you are mounting more than one on this board (as would be the case with an application like internal model lighting) you will either have to solder or wire-nut them together, and then plug them (in bundles) into the main unit or chase board.
In addition to this, there are two “chaseboard” connectors on the UFX board. You can run optional 12” cables from these connectors to either one or two tiny optional "chase" boards that are about 1.25" in diameter. These also have "headers" rather than LED's mounted to them, so again you add your LED's to them, however many you want to add. Use it in a flying saucer model, or in a starship model that has rotating lights in the nacelles! These are available for separate purchase.
The important thing to know here is: Are you comfortable gathering up a few bundles of wires and using solder or a wire nut to make your connection? If your answer is “YES!” then you can save a LOT of frustration with this unit. It is really no more difficult to configure than a home sound system. For example, you could light not only the fusion core and dome, but everything else in the model that you wish to light up (including standard interior lights), all run from one power source, one power switch and one location. The board is already configured complete with resistors, so you do not have worry about knowing a lot about LED’s and resistors — you just need to be able to connect positive leads to positive leads, and negative leads to negative leads. The unit is pre-resistored—You do NOT need to solder resistors to any of the LED's attached to the UFX!
This product is for the casual modeler to do a few things with, but it is also engineered to accommodate the advanced modeler who will want to access some of the more complex features and create a film-quality prop or life-like diorama! It is the one model lighting system that pretty much does everything! It is available with optional power and mode cables (on wires) that plug into the UFX that you can place anywhere inside or outside of your project, or you can simply use the power and mode buttons that are on the actual circuit board. Don’t take my word for it — view the HD YouTube UFX Online Video Manual prepared by professional model and prop builder Simon Mercs (www.thekitfactory.com) . Simon is who I consulted with when I was working out the features for the UFX, and he had a lot of ideas and suggestions!
The UFX is far cheaper to do your model lighting than buying multiple separate FX modules for different effects and such. And this unit will work great with RC, model railroad, and other applications as well! |
